The First Step Performance team has engaged in monthly trips to the Hope Senior Center at Peachtree Corners. There, numerous people from over 20 schools including elementary, middle, and high schools, gathered together and performed a variety of arts for the seniors at the home. Those included music from the piano, violin, trumpet, saxophone, and cello;performance arts such as ballet, dance, and combat; and talk shows.
The performance team aims to not only provide a source of comfort and entertainment to the seniors at the home, but also fosters opportunities for people to connect with each other, the staff members, and some of the seniors. Furthermore, it also provides opportunities for people to exercise their public speech. Lastly, the team aims to establish a safe and comforting environment where everyone’s talents and performances are cherished by each other, fostering happiness and trust.
As team leader, I believe that the performance team has expanded greatly as we are frequently getting new volunteers each month. We are also becoming increasingly more diverse as our performances are getting more unique and complex. One thing that I think the team can improve upon is our communication skills. We all engage in performing arts, but rarely do we ever communicate to our audience. As team leader, I have been challenging myself to deliver a little description of my performance. I will encourage more and more people to talk a little about what they are performing in the future.
