From November to December, around 25 students and 20 parents from First Step volunteered for Salvation Army bell ringing shifts. We raised a total of $2096.35.
The Salvation Army has a 134 year tradition to ring bells during the holidays and raise money for people in need. First Step members have been taking part for 5 years.
Standing in front of a Hobby Lobby, some students dress in holiday attire, some play instruments or sing, or ring the bells provided, to make people aware of the donations. People coming in and out of the store put money in the hanging red kettle.
This is important because the money goes to the Salvation Army’s shelter in Atlanta. It is also important to First Step because many of the students are in elementary school and it teaches them to give from a young age.
